B02 | Secure your data across the Db2 stack
Monday March 17, 2025 10:30am - 11:20am AEDT
Data today is dynamic, distributed and in high demand as data holds critical information to help organizations make informed business decisions, recommendations, and predications to stay competitive and to provide a better customer experience. All this information is stored in a data repository either on-premises or in the cloud, and native approaches to support security and compliance can be operationally complex and don’t ensure data confidentiality. In this presentation, we will take technical deep dive on how to accomplish automated data discovery, classification, real-time activity monitoring and machine learning analytics to understand, detect and respond to suspicious activity, and discuss the different scalable architectures for monitoring and protecting your data. The session will also emphasis on how you can protect your databases and data against insider and external attacks by understanding how to leverage capabilities such as alerting, blocking, and quarantining users and/or processes of suspicious behaviour. In addition, we will demonstrate how to help your organization support audit and compliance activities for APP, PCI DSS, SOX, HIPAA and many more. This session will be valuable for novice to seasoned experts that are looking to learn, design and implement a solid data protection model for data across the enterprise.

B11 | Db2 Datalake Tables and Integration with the Data Lakehouse
Tuesday March 18, 2025 1:30pm - 2:20pm AEDT
The use of object storage and open data and table formats, like Parquet, ORC, and Iceberg, are becoming common place in data management. Db2 has embraced this with the introduction of a new datalake table type, which allows Db2 table data to be stored outside of the database, using these open formats. In this session, you’ll learn more about datalake tables, including use cases, benefits, and how to create and work with them. Additionally, you’ll see how this and other new capabilities allow Db2 to tightly integrate with watsonx.data, IBM’s hybrid, open data lakehouse platform. The data lakehouse is the latest architecture in the evolution of data management, but rather than a replacement for enterprise data warehouses, the data lakehouse is poised to bring value by augmenting and optimizing them.

B13 | IBM Db2: A Database of AI, A Database for AI
Tuesday March 18, 2025 3:30pm - 4:20pm AEDT
IBM Db2 has introduced several AI features in recent years. These features fall into two categories: AI for database and database for AI. In the first category, Db2 has AI models in the database to optimize database operations. A key example is the AI query optimizer GA’d in v12. In the second category, Db2 has integrated machine learning algorithms into the database for users' AI use cases. It provides over 200 in-database AI stored procedures that allow users to develop and run ML pipelines within the database. Db2 also supports Python and R UDFs, enabling users to use their external Python and R models from Db2. These AI features improve database operations and simplify enterprise AI workflows. This session will explore Db2’s AI features from both categories and show how you can use them in developing modern data-driven applications and enterprise workloads.

Offline backup requirement lifted, following a drop member topology change event. Support for database and table space restore involving dropped members in a Db2 pureScale environment. Support for database and table space rollforward through a drop member topology change event in a Db2 pureScale environment. Replication enhancement using the db2ReadLog API in a Db2 pureScale environment. Changes to LIST HISTORY, DB_HISTORY and b2HistoryData data structure.

W02 | Hands-on Lab 1 Building AI with IBM Db2
Wednesday March 19, 2025 8:30am - 11:20pm AEDT
IBM Db2 offers a wide range of AI features, both built-in and external tools, for creating AI systems and solutions. These include over 200 built-in AI stored procedures and tools that work seamlessly with open-source AI ecosystems. In this workshop, participants will explore Db2’s AI support and use a selection of these features to implement practical AI models. The workshop consists of two parts. In the first module, participants will learn how to develop a supervised AI model using Db2’s built-in AI stored procedures. The entire model development and usage will be done using SQL within the database. In the second module, participants will learn how to create a Python model using popular Python packages outside of the database, and then deploy that model back into a Db2 database. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained fundamental skills and hands-on experience in utilizing these AI capabilities. They will be able to apply these skills to their future AI projects. This workshop is designed to be beginner-friendly and does not require participants to have extensive knowledge in AI. Basic SQL skills and some Python programming skills are sufficient for attending and benefiting from this workshop. Notes: the maximum number of attendees at the workshop will be 30. Also, each attendee will need to bring their own laptop that has internet access and a browser. Also, before the workshop, they need to register for a free IBMid from this link: Create an IBMid.

W05 | Hands-on Lab 3 Hands-on with Db2 Datalake Tables and watsonx.data Data Lakehouse Integration
Wednesday March 19, 2025 3:30pm - 5:20pm AEDT
In this lab, you’ll experience how easy it is to create new datalake tables in Db2, including Iceberg and non-Iceberg tables, using open data formats like ORC and Parquet on object storage. Additionally, you’ll see how datalake tables created in Db2 can be shared directly with the watsonx.data open data lakehouse (and vice-versa) and how data and workloads can be offloaded from the enterprise data warehouse onto a lower-cost data platform. This means that workloads using this data can run wherever it makes the most sense – either through watsonx.data or through Db2’s own native query engine (or even other query engines that support these open formats). This flexibility allows you to optimize your AI and analytics workloads by selecting the right engine, for the right workload, at the right cost.

B28 | Enhancing Uptime and Availability Like Never Before
Friday March 21, 2025 4:25pm - 5:15pm AEDT
In this session, we will deep dive the important Backup and Restore enhancements. Likewise, we will go through the pain point of Db2 users and how does the latest enhancement saves time and money for the mission critical applications. Intra-table-space Parallelism (ITP) for backup operations. Automatic Db2 backup enhancements. New Registry variable DB2_VALIDATE_LOG_ON_ARCHIVE. ZLIB compression for backup and log file compression.
