This session will introduce you to the new IBM DBA AI assistant, a new AI powered tool designed for DBAs that provides insights and smart recommendations through a natural language chat interface. Leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) in combination with a wide knowledge base and telemetry from your database fleet, the assistant acts as a copilot that can streamline information retrieval and help you to quickly answer questions and troubleshoot problems on your database systems.

The use of object storage and open data and table formats, like Parquet, ORC, and Iceberg, are becoming common place in data management. Db2 has embraced this with the introduction of a new datalake table type, which allows Db2 table data to be stored outside of the database, using these open formats. In this session, you’ll learn more about datalake tables, including use cases, benefits, and how to create and work with them. Additionally, you’ll see how this and other new capabilities allow Db2 to tightly integrate with watsonx.data, IBM’s hybrid, open data lakehouse platform. The data lakehouse is the latest architecture in the evolution of data management, but rather than a replacement for enterprise data warehouses, the data lakehouse is poised to bring value by augmenting and optimizing them.
Db2 has a wide range of services available across cloud providers like AWS, Azure and IBM Cloud. This session will provide a technical overview of some of the recent updates to these services and offerings as well as provide a sneak peak of what’s to come.
Andrew Hilden is the Chief Architect of Db2 SaaS. He is involved extensively in the development and architecture of several data-oriented cloud services in IBM. In the past 25 years he has worked in development, architectural and leadership roles in Db2 from SaaS to areas like appliances... Read More →
IBM Db2 has introduced several AI features in recent years. These features fall into two categories: AI for database and database for AI. In the first category, Db2 has AI models in the database to optimize database operations. A key example is the AI query optimizer GA’d in v12. In the second category, Db2 has integrated machine learning algorithms into the database for users' AI use cases. It provides over 200 in-database AI stored procedures that allow users to develop and run ML pipelines within the database. Db2 also supports Python and R UDFs, enabling users to use their external Python and R models from Db2. These AI features improve database operations and simplify enterprise AI workflows. This session will explore Db2’s AI features from both categories and show how you can use them in developing modern data-driven applications and enterprise workloads.

In this session, we will deep dive the important Backup and Restore enhancements. Likewise, we will go through the pain point of Db2 users and how does the latest enhancement saves time and money for the mission critical applications. Intra-table-space Parallelism (ITP) for backup operations. Automatic Db2 backup enhancements. New Registry variable DB2_VALIDATE_LOG_ON_ARCHIVE. ZLIB compression for backup and log file compression. Offline backup requirement lifted, following a drop member topology change event. Support for database and table space restore involving dropped members in a Db2 pureScale environment. Support for database and table space rollforward through a drop member topology change event in a Db2 pureScale environment. Replication enhancement using the db2ReadLog API in a Db2 pureScale environment. Changes to LIST HISTORY, DB_HISTORY and b2HistoryData data structure.
